1. Don’t get distracted by social media
It’s all too easy to be like other people you see on Facebook or Instagram. We’re social creatures by nature, so it’s in our DNA to want to fit in with those around us. But here’s the thing, comparing ourselves on social media kills our own voice.
Tandee reminds us that our inner selves are usually hidden deep within and we need to find it without having social media influence us. It may time some time to peel back layers in order to find your real messaging. So it’ll take a little bit of work, but it’ll be worth it!
Easing your grip on social media is the first step for you to be able to find your voice.
So take at least 30 minutes away from your phone or computer and ask yourselves deep questions. Here’s a few to get you started:
- “What is really important to me?”
- “What message do I want to leave in this world when I pass?”
- “What is a life lesson I wish I learned sooner?”
I know. I’m getting pretty deep here. But I find that I am the most honest with myself when I play the death bed game. I imagine myself on my death bed thinking about the type of life that I’ve lived. What do I want to look back and see?

Here’s how to post on Social Media in your own voice
Put down your phone.
Yup. You read that right. If you’re struggling with finding your voice on social, then you need time away from it. Spend some time reconnecting with yourself.
Put your phone away and sit with yourself with no distractions. What thoughts are going on in your head. Is anything on your mind?
Grab Your Journal
Tandee suggests getting your journal and freestyle writing in it. And you know I love using journals to grow!
Don’t put too much thought into this. You can just write your thoughts as soon as they pop into your head. At first, it may seem like random sentences that don’t connect to each other.
But it could also lead to the message you really want to say. When you’re freestyling and not putting pressure on yourself, you might be surprised with what you come up with.
You can get a lot more creative with a blank sheet of paper than the empty caption box on Instagram. Like Tandee says, you pay attention to small details in your handwriting. There’re things that can pop up in your handwriting that you wouldn’t be able to see on your phone.
2. Still can’t find your voice? it’s time to do something different
If you’ve been staring a blank page or just watching your cursor flash for a while, then it’s time to stop that and do something different. Get up and move your body. Go on a walk or get your blood pumping in some way.
3. tips for finding your voice before a presentation
Most people get nervous to stand up and share their ideas. If you’re like that (and my hand is raised with you!) then Tandee has a few suggestions:
- Find a quiet space (even the corner of the room) and take some deep breaths. Put your hand to your heart and continue to breathe deeply until you feel your pulse slow.
- If you can’t find your own space then sit in a restroom stall. While this isn’t ideal, having a little bit of alone time can be what helps you get through it.
4. think that you don’t have anything important to say? Listen up!
So if you’re thinking that you don’t need a voice because you don’t have anything important to share, then I have a message for you. Everyone has their own unique experiences. Everyone has their own story and we are all better off if we hear other’s point of view.
We can’t progress as a human race if we don’t learn from one another. So the next time you don’t think your story is interesting, remember there is someone out there that wants (and needs) to hear it.
